The doors unlocked. Everything was in its place. They built it. The question was, would they come? You bet they did. Ten months after opening its doors, the Bayfront Convention Center has exceeded expectations — in number of events, in attendance, in service and in food quality. The convention center set goals for its first six months and exceeded them in five: it projected booking 59 events; it booked 145. Its goal was to attract 29,000 guests; it attracted more than 62,000. By the numbers, the convention center is doing better than expected. But bricks and mortar alone will not bring events and foot traffic, nor will it forge goodwill. It is service that creates ambassadors who will tout reasons why the convention center provides an excellent venue for business events. “There is no doubt the Bayfront Convention Center is a beautiful facility,” explained Joseph McCorvey, director of marketing and sales. “One step inside the front doors tells you that.
